Outline:
Stockholm | Berlin is
an artistexchange and a presentation of electronic dance
music artists from both cities. However, as both are
the capitals of their country they both represent a
larger cultural background and context.
Since the cultural issue
in electronic dance music is more than "just party",
the organizers of the event wish to discuss theoretical
implications, art aspects, present current work projects
of the artists and support the cultural exchange . As
a follow up to the meeting in the swedish embassy in
Berlin on march 29.03. there will be part 2. of the
discussion of cultural implications in EDM in the Goethe--Institut,
Stockholm on April 11th. Likewise the party in Stockholm
will be the same night in Marie Laveaux, Stockholm.

According to participants and observers,
electronic dance music (EDM) scenes are zones for social,
spiritual and physical transgression. However, EDM also
crystallizes hierarchies and exclusion. While illuminating
some of the cultural characteristics of EDM, this talk
highlights processes of gendering, sexualization and
ethnification on transnational as well as local EDM
scenes. The presenters will draw upon literature, ethnographic
material as well as personal experiences as participants
in these scenes. Anna Gavanas (social anthropologist
and DJ) will make an introduction drawing upon her recent
interview study among DJs/ producers in Berlin, London
and Stockholm. Subsequently, Anna Ostrom (club promoter
and DJ), Mats Almegard (journalist and DJ) will address
power relations in the Stockholm club scene. Finally,
Aroma (label owner, artist and DJ) will conclude the
discussion drawing upon Berlin based as well as international

Artistinfo:
DJ Aroma is the head of the berlin
based Aromamusic label. More than just a publishing
platform for music, aromamusic is a cultural and arts
platform, asking questions of distribution and power
relations. The label publishes mostly digital, organizes
art and events and takes a label as a performing art
project.
Tea:More is representing the musical netculture in a
similar but different approach. He is the founder of
a netlabel, co-organizer of several netlabel conferences.
His aim is to ask about powerrelations in terms of economic
interests of instituions like GEMA and the music industry.
Sport 4 Minus is a mediadesigning Artist who tries to
solve questions of interaction between machines and
the musician. He is also programming interfaces.
DJ Deelay is a very good DJ from berlin who just released
his first compilation Mix CD on all the major digital
platforms.
The swedish crew will be the vinylista
DJ crew ( kvinnosaksklubben) they are a very respcted
female DJ collective aksing questions of power relations
behind the DJ decks. Jungle is a brilliant videoartist,
representing the svaj crew. Mental and friend support
comes from all the rest of the crews who are also playing

Stockholm | Berlin ist ein Event am
29.03.08 in Berlin, der mit Unterstützung der nordischen
Botschaften in Berlin und dem Goethe- Institut in Stockholm
statt findet. Einmal werden eine reihe der wichtigsten
EDM (Electronic Dance Music) Künstler aus der schwedischen
Hauptstadt in Berlin spielen, umgekehrt werden namhafte
deutsche EDM Künstler in Schweden auftreten. Ziel ist
es, den bereits bestehenden kulturellen Austausch der
beiden Metropolen in Bezug auf elektronische Musikkultur
zu fördern. Ziel des Austausches ist es elektronische
Tanzmusik (EDM - Electronic Dance Music) in einen breiteren
Kulturrahmen einzuordnen und ein Buchprojekt vor zu
stellen, welches sich auf theoretisch/kulturwissenschaftlicher
Ebene mit der Repräsentation von EDM beschäftigt. Verschiedene
AutorInnen des Buches werden im Rahmen eines Empfangs
ihre Thesen zu EDM vorstellen und diskutieren. Anna
Gavanas (DJ und Dozentin) wird sich dabei auf Ihre Studie
beziehen, in der sie Berliner, Londoner und Stockholmer
DJs befragte. Mats Almagard (Journalist und DJ) wird
der Frage von Machtbeziehungen inerhalb der Szenen nachgehen.
Vor der Party wird es einen Empfang in den nordischen
Botschaften geben, sowie einen eine Lesung bzw. Diskussion
zu o.g. Buchprojekt.

Abends wird es einen schönen Partyevent
im MarieLaveaux Club geben. Mit dabei sind die Berliner
Crews, die den Event bereits am 29.03. in Berlin unterstützten.
DJ Aroma ist der Kopf hinter dem Berliner Label Aromamusic
welches sich als Medienkunstobjekt versteht. Verbunden
mit der Frage welche Formen der Distribution Musik bestimmen
publiziert Aromamusic in erster linie digitale Musik,
organisiert Events und versteht sich als Kunstform.
Tea:More, der als Repräsentant für Netlag
bzw. Pulsar Records dabei ist versteht sich als Aktivist
in Fragen der Netzpolitik und stellt als Betreiber eines
der bekanntesten Netlabels ebenfalls implizit die Frage
der Distribution und der ökonomie hinter Musik.
Er ist ausserdem Mitorganisator und Kopf hinter diversen
Netlabel Konferenzen.
Sport 4 Minus ist ein Mediendesigner und Künstler,
der sich mit Fragen der haptik und der Programmierung
beschäftigt.
DJ Deelay ist ein hervoragener Berliner DJ, der soeben
seine erste Mix CD "ein koffer aus Berlin"
digital veröffentlicht hat.
Der schwedische Support kommt von der Vinylista DJ Crew
eine komplett weibliche DJ Crew, die das Thema Feminismus
recht gelassen schwedisch verarbeiten. Von dieser Crew
kommt auch die Lesung, denn sie arbeiten an einem Buchprojekt
zum Thema Electronic Dance Music Culture.
Ausserdem unterstützt die Ström crew, eine Radiosendung
mit Hakan Lidbo, Andreas Tilliander und Mats Almegard
den Event. Die Svaj crew ist in Stockholm durch Visual
Artist Jungle vertreten.
